We are gearing up for full construction mode and we have been getting started by moving stone all over the place. Lorien and I chipped a massive brush pile about a month ago to unveil a large stone field. I've been piling up stones, waiting for Lorien to tell me where she would like them to go. In the mean time I built us a little fire ring (the mulch pile from the brush is sitting behind it).
I had to do something will all of the stones, here is the area I took the rocks for the ring from. You can see why farmers moved west, you can dig more than an inch without finding rocks!
As Liselle and Mike now know I have a penchant for moving as big of rocks as I can. That being said I can't hold the tiniest torch to what the excavator did in 6 hours on Friday. Here is the 70+ foot long retaining wall he built (entirely out of stones from our site!)
Grading work for the site and the septic system are set to finish this week; you can see about 1/4 of the leach field on the left side of the image above. The primary electric went in last week and we will hopefully have temporary power on Monday (read: a 4-way outlet box mounted on a tree.)
Since we have had to bring in so much fill to level off our building site, even with compaction, we will be waiting a few weeks before we start the forms work for the slab. Assuming all goes well this week we will also be closing on our loan and will be off and running in earnest.

Love it. Can't wait to see the next steps. Don't be fooled... all the midwesterners are wishing they had a beautiful forested piece of land to play rock tag with.
Hope you and the Lady Lorien are doing well!!!
PS- I'm getting married in July. Good stuff, right?
